Xuemin Institute of Advanced Studies and Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques Sign MOU
France, June 25, 2026 — The Xuemin Institute of Advanced Studies, Fudan University (XIAS) and the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at IHES in France on June 24, 2026. The agreement was jointly signed by Dr. Xiahong Helena Yang, Executive Director of XIAS, and Dr. Emmanuel Ullmo, Director of IHES.
The signing marks a significant step in academic collaboration between two institutions dedicated to fundamental and frontier research in mathematics, theoretical physics, and beyond. Grounded in the principles of equality, mutual benefit, and complementary strengths, the MoU establishes a three-year framework for cooperation. Under the agreement, the two institutions will support early-career researchers through visits and academic exchanges, jointly organize seminars, workshops, and thematic programs, and maintain regular institutional dialogue to deepen collaboration over time.
Founded in 1958, IHES is a world-renowned advanced research institute dedicated to mathematics, theoretical physics, and related fundamental sciences, providing researchers with exceptional academic freedom. XIAS, supported by private philanthropy, is committed to empowering the world's brightest early-career researchers and advancing paradigm-changing discoveries across natural sciences, social sciences, and interdisciplinary fields.
This partnership brings together the complementary strengths of both institutions to accelerate breakthroughs that push the boundaries of human knowledge.

About IHES
The Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES) is an advanced research institute in mathematics, theoretical physics and all related sciences. The Institute offers exceptional scientists a place where they can devote entirely to their research, without any obligation of teaching or administrative tasks. A foundation in the public interest since 1981, IHES invites some 200 researchers from all over the world each year, selected by its Scientific Council. Of the fourteen permanent professors in mathematics recruited by IHES since its creation, eight have received the Fields Medal, the highest distinction in mathematics.
